Flexible electronics also know as flexible PCBs or printed circuit boards, are mounted on a flexible plastic. These flexible PCBs are manufactured the same way as regular printed circuit boards. What makes the flexible PCB different is where the PCB can be used in. Flexible PCBs can be used in cameras, computer keyboards, antennas, hand held sensors, and robotics. Solar technology is using flexible PCBs in manufacturing photovoltaic cells. Car manufactures use them in dashboards and in some lighting equipment. A flexible PCB is used where space is an issue. Flexible PCB is used rather than a rigid board when the board needs to be flexed in order for it to insert properly in an odd shaped space. Light emitting diode or LED are used in indicator lights, and in televisions, radios, telephones, calculators, and watches. LED indicator lights were first red in color but now are in a variety of colors, like blue and green and even white. Now there is high power LEDs. LED PCB gives lower thermal resistance for light emitting diode applications. Most LED PCB components are UL certified. Some LED PCB products can be complaint for flash gold plating, immersion tin, organic surface protection, Lead free HASL and other components.
