The family vacation is a tradition planned to bring families closer together and one that many of us would just not like to give up. Quality time for the family buttresses the significance of family values. It is a sort of a “time out” from the monotony of living and growing. It is a chance to concentrate on getting to know better those who are most important to us, our family. Of course, how much importance one places on this event depends on his past experiences.
In today’s fast paced society a vacation just isn’t a vacation unless it is costing one a small fortune. Everyone wants an exotic venue that typically offers lots of fun and excitement.
Let us not forget that the “family” stretches beyond our home life. Most of us have family that we hardly get to spend time with either because of distance or time issues. But, one should always take out time for family. Not trying to make one feel at fault here but, we do have a manner of letting life rush us through the years. I
t is known as “non-intentional neglect” and most of us are guilty as regards it at some point in our lives. So, let us re-invent the family vacation to incorporate some real quality time that strengthens the value of our families.
Would one regards a stay at grandparents, distant uncles, or a friend
’s home a vacation? In my growing years the family vacation usually meant visiting family members who lived some distance away. Coming from a family of inadequate finances, this tradition was economical yet, was sufficient to fulfill our need to escape the norms of home life.
